My Security in Jesus Part Two

security_in_jesus_pt2We all look for security. We seek to have friends or family that will always be there for us. We lock our doors and shut our windows to keep people who would potentially harm us out of our houses. We install antivirus software on our computers to keep viruses, trojans, spam, and spyware off our computers. We purchase insurance just in case and we are offered extended warranties on what we purchase because we want to be protected. We want assurance that everything will be ok. We desire security. There is no true insurance in this life, but we know that His promises are the only guarantee that can be truly guaranteed.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

You and I can rest assured that God is always at work behind the scenes, working things together for the good of those who are called by Him according to His purposes. Notice that doesn’t mean that we will always be comfortable and happy or that life will always smell like roses. You and I can take security in the fact that God is always at work whether or not you notice Him and He is always working for our good. This brings great peace and security.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

You and I can also be assured that nothing will ever separate us from God’s love. Nothing. Ok, let that sink in. Nothing will ever remove you from God’s love. Nothing will ever be able to get in-between you and God. There is nothing in all of the world that will ever make God love you less.

There is nothing that can steal you away or remove God from the picture. He will always love you. His love for you will never stop. His love for you will never fade. You and I should take great comfort in the security of His love for us.

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)

If that wasn’t enough, Jesus will never give up on you. We know God is always working on us and sanctifying us and that it’s for our good. I think that is apparent to us but did you realize that means God will never give up on you? That means no matter what, God will be there for you. This means that He isn’t ignoring you. He hasn’t thrown in the towel on your character or your life. He doesn’t roll His eyes when He thinks about you. You and I are on God’s workbench and we’re an ongoing process. God hasn’t run out of ideas for how to work on us. He continues to mold us and shape us into His image and He isn’t throwing us away to start over. We can take confidence and security in the fact that God will never give up on us.

For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3)

You remember when you were young and would get scared easily? You covered your eyes and you thought that if you couldn’t see what was causing you to be afraid you were safe, right? Just look at the animals, they often hide seeking security that cannot be found when they are open and exposed. There is something comforting about hiding, isn’t there? We almost instinctively are comforted when we are wrapped up in a warm blanket in a dark room.

If you’ve received Jesus as your personal savior you have died and your life is hidden in Him. Isn’t that comforting? You’re hidden in Jesus. You’re not open, exposed and vulnerable because you’re protected and hidden in the shadow of His wing (see Psalm 17:8 & 91:4). We can find security in the fact that we are hidden in Jesus.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Jesus is always available. We all have that friend or family member we call, text, chat with day or night when we are in trouble and need help. Have you ever not been able to get a hold of that friend that you so desperately wanted to talk to when you needed someone to talk to? You feel almost desperate, abandoned, trapped, lost, or hopeless. Jesus is always available for any need, concern or help that you or I might have. We can always approach Him. We have access to His mercy and grace in our desperate times of need.

It used to be that you could only approach God through the priest. In fact, if the high priest took a wrong step or touched the wrong thing in the holy of hollies, he would die. So when he entered the inner tent, they would attach a rope around his ankle in case they needed to pull him out. I’m so thankful it’s not like that anymore. Day or night common people just like you or me can approach God’s throne to ask for mercy and grace and to receive help in our desperate hour of need. He is always available. You always have access to Him. You will never get turned away because He is always available for us.

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

Whatever you face today, take assurance in the fact that God is always working behind the scenes for your good. Your friends and family might abandon you but nothing will ever separate you from His love. Your mentor, professor, or boss might throw in the towel but Jesus will never stop working on you or give up on you. You might feel exposed, open, and vulnerable but you are hidden in Jesus. You might not be able to reach your good friend or your family might be unable to help you in your hour of need but Jesus is always available for whatever you might need. You can have peace and rest when your security is in Jesus.
